Kintsugi translates “golden joinery”. It is the art of rejoining a broken item with enamel and real gold powder. The process takes up to a month to sacredly join the broken vessel. Once completed, it is deemed more valuable. The golden veins highlight the elegance of the breaks and reminds one of the essence of resilience.
Each of us have our personal fractures that are our limitations, insecurities and traumas. Culturally, we either don’t want to see the flaws or we want to disguise them. These actions keep us separate from our authentic selves and consequently from one another. Since the art of Kintsugi preserves the wisdom to respect what is damaged, imperfect and different, our fragments then have merit. This invitation allows for redefinition of our wholeness with self and others —- A necessity for healing.
Wood painting is mounted with mosaic tile frame. If interested, I will send you a photo showing the mosaic frame.
